Hi fam,
I have visited abeokuta twice and I am so excited to be sharing pictures of my trip.
Abeokuta is an amazing place to visit, a name which loosely translated to “under the rock”. Abeokuta was originally inhabited by the Egba people who found refuge at the Olumo Rock during inter-tribal wars in the 19th century.
Places I visited in Abeokuta.
* Olumo Rock
* Funaab Zoo
*Tye and Dye (Itoku Market)
* Alake of Egba Palace.
OLUMO ROCK
Olumo rock, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Nigeria,the rock provided shelter and was a place of refuge to the people of Egba during the inter tribal war.

This place is called OKE ONA EGBA. |

The art gallery and the museum is the next door after, Something so exciting is every art was recycled from waste. |

Olumo shrine, the deity is always worshiped with a big black cow, and the place is opened just once in a year,in August or during the Lisabi festival or alake's birthday.
The abore and alake are the only ones allowed to enter. There is a belief that when you pray and ask for something at the shrine with faith,your prayers get answered and people come with a fowl that it blood would be she'd and kidney sprinkled to thank the gods. AMAZING. |
Grave yard of Chief Sunny Akinmategun of ikotun,(otun,left hand side to the king) Every Otun must be buried at the back of their house. He died 3rd of January 1956.
The old mama's house.
This is a shrine of the god of iron, in front of mama's house.
Iya Olumo
Only one room out of the three bedroom flat built for the people for refuge is still standing.
We listened to lessons from our tour guide.
I decided to take a picture as the boss😝,spot my Tecno flask,it helped preserved my cold teem while we hiked.
The Baoba Tree-Igi ose- the tree has lived for over 300years.
Some faces of warriors that fought for the people of egba.
Aerial view from the top of olumo, you can spot the First Baptist Church in Nigeria from the top.
We had fun visiting Olumo rock and learning about the history of the rock and the people of egba,the tourist site is quite commendable,great place to visit.
Aside from Olumo rock, you can also visit the great itoku market, popularly known for the sales and making of tye and dye,funaab zoo, the alake of egba palace(although some constructions have been reconstructed),on your way to the palace you would see the first church in Nigeria.
ITOKU MARKET
ALAKE OF EGBA PALACE.
FUNAAB ZOO
One more mistake I made, don't forget to eat the local ofada rice, already on my way when I remembered.
Do you have any other place you have visited in abeokuta and you want others to also visit, kindly share in comment below.
